Getting Ready for Online Conferencing via LearningPlace Data Server.
This information is provided to parents or Supervisors working with IT personel as a guide and not an
instruction. No liability is accepted for unaccepted consequences or misconstrued interpretation or

- Have you got a PC or Apple© computer ?
- If you have Apple© this instruction might not be useful
to you so contact LearningPlace http://education.qld.gov.au/learningplace/ or your local IT, or BSDE
IT 07 3214 8200.
- If you have a PC, check the operating system on your computer: is it Windows 2000, XP or
Vista© : open Windows Explorer – Go to HELP in the dropdown menu click the ABOUT WINDOWS
option.

For Windows 2000 and XP check that you have Netmeeting© installed on your computer : go to START
then RUN and type in conf.exe and click OK. If Netmeeting window does not open on your screen, you will have to download one for
XP from Microsoft©: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=26c9da7c-f778-4422-a6f4-efb8abba021e&DisplayLang=en Normally
it comes bundled with XP.
- For Windows XP to Install Netmeeting: provide the following details in Netmeeting
;
i. personal info,
ii. MAKE SURE to uncheck boxes pointing to Microsoft Servers,
iii. Choose LAN for schools or ADSL/CABLE for home bandwidths,
iv. then you keep Clicking the NEXT button until you come to the FINISH, since we are not going to use sound
- therefore there is no need to configure it.
v. When finished with this configuration SHUT DOWN the open Netmeeting Window
- For Windows XP. Shut down the open Netmeeting window
and you can JUMP TO point 8 and follow it through to the end in this list
6. If you have WindowsVISTA :

- Download NM30.EXE from Microsoft.com : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=26c9da7c-f778-4422-a6f4-efb8abba021e&DisplayLang=en

Save NM30.EXE to your computer somewhere BUT DO NOT INSTALL IT YET!
- If you are BEHIND A NET WORK like in most schools or FIREWALL download/save NM30.EXE to
an external USB key drive
- If you are saving it to a home computer you can save it anywhere on your computer but REMEMBER
WHERE you placed it, as you will have to be able to find it.
- Now find the saved NM30.EXE and RIGHT MOUSE click on the file and select “Properties”.
- Choose and Click the “Compatibility”
tab.
- Put a check in “Run This Program In Compatibility Mode For:”
- Select Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack
5).
- Click “OK”.
- Go back to the saved file. Double click it (the
NM30.EXE icon) and install NM30.EXE NOW as normal. Yeah….NetMeeting now works in Vista.

For Windows VISTA :
- check that you have installed Netmeeting© on your computer
- provide the following details in Netmeeting ;
i. personal info,

iv. then you keep Clicking the NEXT button until you come to the FINISH, since we are not going to use sound
- therefore there is no need to configure it.
v. When finished with this configuration SHUT DOWN the open Netmeeting Window
- Obtain the CLASS/LESSON NAME and a PASSWORD for the class FROM YOUR TEACHER well before your class
commences.
- GO TO YOUR ONLINE CLASS/LESSON: Open your Internet
browser and navigate to the Learning Place server: http://student.conferencing.eq.edu.au/conferencing/
- Go to LIST CLASSES in the left menu.
- Find your class. The quickest way to locate your class/lesson is by reading the time column and then
going back across to the left to find the class/lesson name
- Click on the class/lesson name.
- You will be prompted to provide YOUR PASSWORD now
- The first time you log on to LearningPlace the system will prompt you to allow to install on your
computer an end-user patch. Accept it.
- BE PATIENT as connecting could take a few seconds or even minutes.
- If not successful this time you can shut down the browser and start the login process
again.
